Functional description. Lutein from Tagetes erecta is a xanthophyll carotenoid that provides yellow to orange coloration and functions simultaneously as a nutrient supplement. It is oil-soluble and is offered in oil-suspension, powder, and water-dispersible beadlet forms.
Primary application areas. Baked goods and baking mixes, beverages and beverage bases, breakfast cereals, chewing gum, dairy product analogs, fats and oils, frozen dairy desserts, jams, instant soups, creams, yoghurts, cheese, seafood, and soft drinks. In dietary supplements, it is used in softgels, tablets, and gummies for both color and eye-health positioning.
